Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will count at 133 instead of 200 to cut the cost. The Indian Railways have revised the contract changing the number of coaches and the number of trains as well. The 58000 crore contract for Vande Bharat sleeper trains stand amended now. There will be 24 coaches instead of 16 coaches in old contract. Similarly there will be 133 Vande Bharat sleeper trains now instead of 200 envisaged previously. The changes in the contract were made due to cost cutting measure. The increasing popularity of Vande Bharat trains had made the Indian Railways think about brining out a sleeper version of the trains for long distance.

Since the facilities and services provided to the commuters were at par with the passenger flight, the commuters lapped it up with both hands. The quality of food provided in the VB trains was among the concerns addressed by the Indian Railways giving an impression that the VB train is in a premium category.

The routes in 3-4 states were always asking for more VB trains. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently rolled out the prototype version of the VB sleeper at BEML. According to the sources, the VB will undergo trails over the next few weeks. The new amended contract has mandated the BEML to build 10 Vande Bharat sleeper trains for the railways with a 16-coach configuration.
